I made a knitted dress for Miss M's American Girl Doll. She had asked me to pretty please make her one and I just had to oblige. I found a simple enough pattern on Ravelry but it turned out so short! I had to add quite a few rows to get it half way to the doll's knee. I used a size bigger on the needles so maybe that was the problem. Miss M liked it well enough though.Just Lovelyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09580518186580430149noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532235335460508060.post-78170617187450621312009-08-07T16:42:00.000-07:002009-08-07T16:42:55.590-07:00Plum Jam<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie_Ln03R1Zn6l0rMNsBe9fvq2bK-8gHlt0eHQdTFwnNlDMn_zu7XKLu2HVrpVFdKj6Rwk_SPYOKXvJpyctLGNAqjb3hCvWNjlxkH4nax1oSlD56grujJrhnpGbjY4uWXh1BaUl5MfRzpc/s1600-h/002_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie_Ln03R1Zn6l0rMNsBe9fvq2bK-8gHlt0eHQdTFwnNlDMn_zu7XKLu2HVrpVFdKj6Rwk_SPYOKXvJpyctLGNAqjb3hCvWNjlxkH4nax1oSlD56grujJrhnpGbjY4uWXh1BaUl5MfRzpc/s320/002_edited-1.JPG" /></a></div><br />

I did something new. I just sent 5 sets of my knitting needles off as part of a wholesale order. Selling wholesale is new to me and I hadn't given it much thought until I was approached by a little shop in California. I made myself a new Spring outfit. Isn't it cute! (Please excuse the cheesy grin. My hubby was making me laugh.) The material is a cotton/poly knit that I found in the clearance section of Joann's. I bought 2 yards for $8. It's thin so I have to wear a tank under the top, but that's okay. I like the way it moves and feels.<br />

I didn't do the large sash that ties in the back because I wanted more of a blouse look. I also omitted the buttons on the sleeves because I hate making button holes. I left the bottom edge unfinished to match the skirt. My favorite part is hard to see in the picture, but I embellished the neckline with a fabric flower ruffle thing. I woke up this morning to sunshine and the desire to sew some Springy clothes. Not having any appropriate clothing patterns (must remedy this soon) I hacked a shirt sized shape out of a thrifted pillowcase and then just made things up as I went along.<br />

I am convinced that we were meant to be together. The dress and me. Me and the dress.<br />
<br />
The only problem is the $150 price tag. I just can't do it.<br />
<br />
So I'm going to make the dress. I've been working on drafting a pattern by combining bits and pieces of other patterns and making my own adjustments. It's a work in progress. Thanks to a sale and coupon I bought the fabric (online). It's a delicious organic cotton / bamboo jersey blend. <i>Yummy</i>. I bought extra yardage so I could have enough to play around with because I'm slightly nervous. I've never sewn on jersey before and this is <i>the</i> dress we're talking about.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I made a skirt. I used a recipe and not a pattern. I'll make some adjustments next time, but overall I really like the skirt. The color is fabulous, because well, I dyed it myself. :) It's super comfy due to the amazing awesomeness of the material. I wish all my clothes were made out of jersey. Bonus: the wide stretchy waist band means it can double as a maternity skirt. And no I'm not pregnant; I'm just being practical. <br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">1. Make a late hour run to the fabric store with your daughter to pick out material.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">2. Chuckle when the lady at Joann's tells you that your poodle skirt is going to be short.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">3. Wait until 11:30pm to pull out your material and try to draft a pattern.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
4. Realize that the lady at Joann's was right. You didn't buy enough fabric.</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
5. Cut out the skirt and piece together a yoke to give it more length.</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
6. Tell your husband it will only take you a few minutes to put it all together. Roll your eyes when he tells you all your projects take an hour. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
7. Use your serger to whip it all together super quick. Then spend at least 30 minutes fiddling with the ribbon trim at the top. Iron on the poodle decal.</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
8. Show your hubby the new poodle skirt and try not to point out that he was right; it took you 1 hour. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
9. Pretend like you meant to leave off the poodle leash when hubby points it out. <br />
<br />
10. Paint on poodle leash. Pray that daughter will not hate the skirt saving you from trying to make a new one before school.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
11. Breath a sigh of relief when daughter loves it.</div>Just Lovelyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09580518186580430149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532235335460508060.post-10051658082192734112009-02-26T08:20:00.000-08:002009-02-26T08:20:01.308-08:00100I hit 100 hearts on Etsy! <br />

(It basically just means that 100 people stumbled upon my shop and liked it enough to bookmark it.) <br />

But I feel pretty special anyway. :)Just Lovelyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09580518186580430149noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532235335460508060.post-45104470288029581672009-02-25T09:38:00.000-08:002009-02-25T09:38:04.847-08:0030 Days of Meals<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbps7deneALygac5J6p9FDrLziAAU-QCUKT7jTVU8k2_s5yhHGr_HblmBbWc7QbCb1Hq5nGAsA5is3PsyfXQfhSW91dfRPGmXRkN9rfLRwStHdwsZhSkenPNRmi1PwBAIShQ3GsHL4QZs/s1600-h/IMG_1257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbps7deneALygac5J6p9FDrLziAAU-QCUKT7jTVU8k2_s5yhHGr_HblmBbWc7QbCb1Hq5nGAsA5is3PsyfXQfhSW91dfRPGmXRkN9rfLRwStHdwsZhSkenPNRmi1PwBAIShQ3GsHL4QZs/s320/IMG_1257.JPG" /></a></div><br />
A well stocked pantry is a wonderful thing. I am always working on mine and was definitely interested when a friend of mine blogged about an easy way to accumulate enough food for 30 days of meals. She suggested that the 30 days could be broken down into 10 of your family's favorite meals making sure to have enough ingredients on hand to make each meal 3 times. Sounds easy enough!<br />
<br />
Here's my list of meals. They are easily made with frozen, canned and dry ingredients.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Pasta with olive oil, tomatoes, olives and mushrooms</div><div style="text-align: center;">Chili with rice and cornbread</div><div style="text-align: center;">Indian curry with chickpeas, sweet potatoes, spiced rice and peas</div><div style="text-align: center;">Chicken noodle soup (with or without meat) and dumplings</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cuban style black beans with rice and flat bread</div><div style="text-align: center;">Chicken pot pie with veggies</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hawaiin Haystacks with pineapple, slivered almonds, crunchy noodles, and coconut</div><div style="text-align: center;">13 bean soup with fresh rolls</div><div style="text-align: center;">Quick bean burritos (pinto)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Sticky chicken with rice, veggies and mandarin oranges</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: left;">Of course, all of these meals would best be enhanced with the addition of a fresh vegetable and or fruit. I also keep oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup on hand for breakfasts (we don't eat a lot of boxed cereal) and plenty of ingredients for bread (flour, yeast and oils), peanut butter and homemade jams for lunches.</div>Just Lovelyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09580518186580430149noreply@blogger.com1
